Edinburgh International Festival with Víkingur Ólafsson

Edinburgh International Festival with Víkingur Ólafsson

Usher Hall, Edinburgh

The Bergen Philharmonic and conductor Edward Gardner bring captivating emotions to this performance featuring Icelandic pianist Víkingur Ólafsson in his Festival debut.

In the second of their International Festival 2022 concerts, the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra and Chief Conductor Edward Gardner bring together the spirit of the dance and passionate emotions in three works to charm, captivate and seduce.

With a stream of international bookings and a major recording contract, Icelandic pianist Víkingur Ólafsson has quickly become one of the world’s most celebrated keyboard players, praised for his technical brilliance and visionary insights. In his International Festival debut, he explores the Romantic richness of Schumann’s lyrical Piano Concerto.

Gardner opens and closes his concert with music to set the body moving: Ravel’s heady study of dance decadence La Valse, and the brilliant colours of Rachmaninov’s Hollywood-style Symphonic Dances.
